Posting on Twitter, writer Carys Hannah said: "Got off the train at London Euston & went down the escalator to the underground. As soon as I reached the gate, security closed it off. One of them told me there’s been a stabbing. I really hope the person who was stabbed will be OK."

In another tweet, she said: "Security told me someone’s been stabbed on the underground."

And Twitter user Finley said: "What was the panic at euston underground just now about? Saw people running up escalators and armed police heading towards it #euston"

British Transport Police later confirmed they had been called to reports of a man with a knife, the Daily Star said.

He said: "Officers were called to Euston station at 1.27pm following reports of a man with a knife. No suspects were found and our investigation remains ongoing."
