A woman was found dead and three other people are fighting for life in hospital after another weekend of bloodshed in London.

Scotland Yard launched its fourth murder inquiry of the New Year after the woman, in her mid-30s, was found dead at a block of flats in east London on Saturday evening.

A 32-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and is being questioned by police in custody.

Police say they are treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem examination will be carried out to establish how the woman died.

Neighbours in the modern Baltimore Wharf block in East Ferry Road on the Isle of Dogs said they were “shocked” after the woman’s body was discovered. Police remained at the scene this morning.

Another murder inquiry has been launched into the death of a 50-year-old woman in Hobday Street in Tower Hamlets.

The death on December 30 was originally treated as unexplained but a special post mortem examination found the victim had been strangled. There have been no arrests.

In a separate attack yesterday, an 18-year-old man was left critically injured after being stabbed at Blackhorse Road Tube station in Waltham Forest.

He was taken by air ambulance to a major trauma centre in east London after the stabbing at 2.30pm, and remained in a critical condition in hospital this morning.

A man arrested on suspicion of GBH today remained in custody.

Another young man, 26, was in a critical but stable condition in hospital today after being stabbed a number of times in Field Road, Forest Gate, at about 2pm on Saturday. A man was arrested on suspicion of GBH.

In another incident a 39-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a male driver in a possible road rage attack in Gants Hill, Redbridge.

Police arrested a 54-year-old man who was driving a Toyota Yaris that collided with the woman’s Kia Picanto at about 6.50pm on Friday.

The woman was said to be in a critical condition in hospital today.
