London could miss out on England Tests and one-day matches this summer

The Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford are leading the way to host international cricket on its resumption, but London could yet play a role in the summer’s Test and one-day matches.

Both the Hampshire and Mancashire venues have hotels on site, making biosecurity issues easier to contend with when cricket resumes. The fact that neither The Oval nor Lord’s boasts their own on-site hotels counts against them in terms of London playing a central role in the return of cricket, plus the fact they are in a city which was the coronavirus capital for the UK until recently.

But neither venue has been entirely discounted from a potential role, with current discussions described as “fluid”.

The Oval had been due to kick off the international summer with the Test against West Indies on June 4. Both Surrey and the MCC are covered by ticket insurance should their Tests be cancelled.
