London College of Fashion 2018 show: Meet London's future stars of costume design

The rising stars of the costume world saw their sketches come to life last week as their designs were presented on stage in Clerkenwell.

London College of Fashion held its 10th annual costume presentation on December 6 at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

The MA Costume Design for Performance show gives students a chance to showcase their work to family and friends. Standout pieces from this year's event included a costume made out of plastic that addressed pollution concerns, as well as garments exploring issues such as domestic abuse and body dysmorphia in men. Previous years have focussed on topics including beauty conformity, sustainability and the suffragettes.

Many LCF alumni have gone on to work as assistant designers and costume supervisors at leading London institutions including the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and on hit films such as Harry Potter and Star Wars. Other former students have secured jobs working for powerhouse fashion labels including Chanel, Dior, McQueen and Lawrence Xu, producing one-off costumes and objects for catwalk shows.

Graduate designs have also been presented at major national and international festivals like Prague Quadrennial and Edinburgh Festival and have been exhibited at the National Gallery London, the V&A Museum, National Centre of Performance Art in Beijing and a number of other venues in the UK and abroad.
