London Cocktail Club to open new bar at derelict Bristol building

A renowned cocktail bar chain is eyeing up a new site in Bristol city centre.

London Cocktail Club has applied for a licence to open at Gilbert House in Corn Street, which is undergoing a major refurbishment.

The building was once home to That Mexican Place, which later became The Mexican Kitchen, but has been vacant for around a decade.

London Cocktail Club opened its first bar in London in 2008, before going on to add another eight across the capital.

In 2018 the chain opened its first bar outside its founding city here in Bristol, on the Clifton Triangle.

And following the success of that venue, they are now poised to open a separate bar in the city centre.

It is not yet known if London Cocktail Club plans to keep its first Bristol venue open after launching in Corn Street.

The brand is managed by friends JJ Goodman and James 'Hoppy' Hopkins, who first fell in love with Bristol after appearing on BBC's The Restaurant back in 2009.

They secured investment from judges Raymond Blanc and Sarah Willingham but, crucially, they left the show with the goal of one day opening a London Cocktail Club right here in Bristol.

Ten years on and the duo finally achieved their dream by launching the Clifton site.

LCC described itself as: "A bar that parties like the best of them, and mixes the world’s greatest drinks to perfection.

"A place where you can throw your hands in the air, whilst singing to ACDC, sipping on the perfect dry Martini."

Its bar on the Triangle has a rating of 4.4 / 5 from 131 reviews on Google, with visitors praising the service and range of cocktails on offer.
