The Danes’ starting 11 is expected to include two faces familiar to the capital’s football fans — Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen and Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
It was just over five weeks ago that Christensen, 25, and team-mate Mason Mount celebrated victory over Manchester City in the Champions League. But their friendship will be forgotten, with the pair set to go toe-to-toe tonight.
After the Dane scored a screamer against Russia in the group stages, Mount, 22, sent him a message asking why he didn’t score like that for Chelsea. Christensen raised the temperature, saying he did not think favourites England were “that much better”.
One person rooting for him is his girlfriend Katrine Friis, who has posted pictures on Instagram of her cheering on the Danes in the tournament — with the rallying cry “Let’s goooodk”. The couple have been together since 2016 and share a flat in London.
Højbjerg is likely to be squaring up against his club captain Harry Kane.
The midfielder, 25, married Josephine Siw Nielsen in 2019. They have two children together.
Another Premier League star who could feature for Denmark is Christian Nørgaard, 27, who plays for newly promoted Brentford.
