London Bridge: Police search Stafford home after terror attack

A police search is under way at a property in Stafford believed to be in connection with the London Bridge terror attack.

Cordons, uniformed officers and search teams were spotted on Saturday morning at a block of flats in Wolverhampton Road.

A police photographer and search teams entered one of two doors at the front entrance to the block, while two uniformed officers were present at a cordon outside the building.

Both officers from West Midlands Police and Metropolitan Police were seen at the address on Saturday.

It comes after Assistant Metropolitan Police Commissioner Neil Basu said on Friday night: "We are now in a position to confirm the identity of the suspect as 28-year-old Usman Khan, who had been residing in the Staffordshire area.

"As a result, officers are, tonight, carrying out searches at an address in Staffordshire."

It comes after two people were killed in the attack and three others injured - one of whom remains in a critical but stable condition on Saturday.

Khan, who had previously been jailed for being part of a terrorist plot, was shot dead by armed officers at London Bridge after he was tackled by members of the public.

It has now been revealed that he was released on licence last year after being convicted of terrorism offences in 2012.

Cordons remain in place at London Bridge after the attack that started just before 2pm on Friday.

Mr Basu added on Friday: "This individual was known to authorities, having been convicted in 2012 for terrorism offences.

"He was released from prison in December 2018 on licence and clearly, a key line of enquiry now is to establish how he came to carry out this attack.

"Tragically, two people – a man and a woman – were killed during the attack. Three others – a man and two women – were also injured and remain in hospital. "
