Lolly loving lemurs bask in heatwave at London Zoo

London Zoo’s lolly licking lemurs were filmed enjoying their favourite treats as temperatures are set to reach up to 31C over the weekend.

The ring-tailed lemurs, which are renowned sunbathers according to zookeepers, gently worked their way through the icy treats to get to their favourite seeds encased within.

The nimble lemurs are well equipped to deal with summer, with the black rings around their eyes acting as natural sunglasses.

Lemurs can often be spotted by visitors to London Zoo sunbathing on their special platforms, or sitting with their arms apart so the sun can warm their stomachs.

It comes as a heat-health warning has been issued England with temperatures expected to soar.

The UK is expected to experience a possible heatwave on Sunday and Monday and Public Health England (PHE), which issued the alert, has urged the public to take measures to keep safe.

It has advised people to keep their homes cool, close curtains, drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm when UV rays are strongest.

The level two heat-health alert covers every part of England excluding parts of the North East , the North West and London and is due to last until Tuesday.
