
The head of the UN operation monitoring a ceasefire in Yemen's key port of Hodeida, Danish Lt. Gen. Michael Lollesgaard, presented a redeployment plan to Yemeni Army Chief-of-Staff Abdullah al-Nakhei, revealed Yemeni government sources.
Lollesgaard submitted a proposal to implement the Stockholm Agreement and a mechanism for redeployment in Hodeida and isolated regions that would provide safe passages for humanitarian aid and affairs– the passages will be placed between the two parties and managed by international forces.
Nakhei said that the legitimate government forces are ready to execute safe deployment according to the articles of Sweden Agreement, conveying the government’s keenness on permanent peace based on the three references.
This coincided with Brigadier General Abdo Majali calling on the UN to name the party obstructing the implementation of the Sweden Agreement, hinting on resorting to the military option in case the Houthi group refused to withdraw from Hodeida and the three ports.
Further, Majali affirmed that the national army is committed to the truce in Hodeida based on guidelines of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.
During a news conference in Maarib on Saturday, he stated that the national army won’t stand still and is fully ready for a military intervention in Hodeida front in case current negotiations fail and militias reject the peaceful solution – directives in this regards were issued for the army.
Majali also tackled latest developments on the fronts and victories achieved by the national army, as well as the role of the Arab Coalition to back the legitimacy and the army, slamming the breaches of the Houthi militias against Yemenis.
