Lollapalooza daily schedule is revealed and the conflicts are agonizing

CHICAGO _ Feeling a little conflicted these days? It's that time of year again with the release this week of Lollapalooza's daily schedule.

The festival grid shows when and where each of 170 bands and artists will be performing Aug. 3-6 in Grant Park. Decisions some of them agonizing will have to be made with eight stages occupied more or less continually for four straight 10-hour days.

It would be easy to imagine some festivalgoers wishing they could tear themselves in three so they could take in overlapping sets Aug. 6 by Car Seat Headrest, Noname and Maggie Rogers. It's just one of a number of Lolla musical conflicts:

Aug. 3: They don't sound anything alike, but indie rockers Spoon and DJ Kaytranada are both reliably adventurous artists, and it's a shame to have to choose between them. Though rising hip-hop hitmakers Migos are the must-see in the 5 p.m. slot, it's a shame not to be able to see the ever-acerbic Liam Gallagher, who may or may not take another verbal shot at his estranged brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel Gallagher.

Aug. 4: Not a heck of a lot to fret about. Run the Jewels is at the top of most people's lists, and rightly so. But just as their set finishes at 7:45 p.m., you'll still have time to jog across the park in time to take in acclaimed locals Whitney, who are due to break in some new songs. Though the Killers and Blink-182 are ostensibly the headliners, the fierce electronic duo Crystal Castles is shaping up as the night-closing must-see.

Aug. 5: The top-heavy bill has three distinct performers, all worth your time: all-everything rap star Chance the Rapper, low-key indie-rockers the XX, and house-music veteran Kaskade.

Aug. 6: Besides the Car Seat Headrest-Noname-Maggie Rogers collision in the 2:30-3:30 p.m. slot, it's no fun to have to choose between U.K. singer Sampha and the Shins a few hours later. Headliners Arcade Fire will justifiably draw a healthy crowd for its headlining slot, though it's quite likely that the most over-the-top fans will be congregating for Rae Sremmurd at the opposite end of the park.
