Lok Sabha elections | Rajnath Singh to head BJP’s manifesto committee; Nirmala Sitharaman to be convener

BJP president J.P. Nadda on March 30 notified the setting up of the party’s manifesto committee for the Lok Sabha election. The committee is to be headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be the committee’s convener, and another Union Minister, Piyush Goyal, its co-convener. The Chief Ministers of four States — Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat, Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, and Vishnu Deo Sai of Chattisgarh are also members of this 27-member committee.

Senior leaders, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Vasundhara Raje, are among the members of the committee.

The BJP had in January set off vehicles across the country to collect suggestions from the general public on what the party should include in its manifesto. In 2019, the BJP had promised the setting up of a mission for tap water connections in all households, which resulted in the ‘har ghar jal’ (water to every house) programme once elected back to power.
