Lok Sabha elections 2019: Admin starts preparations as Noida, Ghaziabad go to polls on April 11

The Election Commission (EC) announced on Sunday evening that polling for the Lok Sabha elections, 2019, in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad districts in the first phase, on April 11.

With the announcement having come in, the district administration and development authorities have started preparations.

The Noida authority removed all unauthorised political posters, hoardings and pamphlets within the day and also asked all parties to display advertisements only after taking permission.

The administration has also started preparing the booths and officials and will brief all parties regarding the rules of the model code of conduct on Monday morning.

According to the district administration of Gautam Buddh Nagar, the prospective candidates can start filing nominations from March 18 and the last date for nomination will be March 25.

The nominations will be reviewed on March 26 and candidates can withdraw their names latest by March 28. The votes will be counted on May 23.

“The model code of conduct is in force now and all parties have to adhere to it. If there is anything that is not in accordance with the law, the election commission can take action against the respective political party for it,” B N Singh, district magistrate, said.

Meanwhile, the Noida authority deployed 10 teams from all work circles to bring down unauthorised political hoardings from across the city within 24 hours. The authority deployed 40 tractors, 10 hydra, 10 small cranes, four lift machines and 400 workers.

During the drive, the team pulled down 55 large hoardings, 800 small hoardings from electric pillars, 450 posters stuck on walls, 85 paintings on walls and 190 banners.

“An official has been designated in each work circle to ensure that no illegal posters, banners or hoardings are put up by political parties during the period of the model code of conduct. All parties are also instructed to follow the rules accordingly,” Rajeev Tyagi, general manager of Noida Authority, said.

According to officials, more than 14,50,000 voters will cast their votes in the coming elections in Gautam Buddh Nagar. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, at least 12,14,053 voters had cast their ballots. There are three Assembly seats in the district. There will be 492 polling centres across 20 zones in 112 sectors. There are 1,417 polling booths in the district and the administration has requested for 119 auxiliary booths.

Elections will be held in Uttar Pradesh in all seven phases of the general election in 2019.
