“Lok Sabha Chaos: MPs Suspended After Calling Chair ‘Yaar’ and Throwing Papers”

Recounting the episode, Tenneti said that a member from the opposition addressed him as “yaar” (friend/buddy), a term he described as objectionable in a parliamentary setting. When he objected to the remark, the response from the opposition benches was that there was “nothing wrong” in using the term.

“In continuation of that, some of them came to the table and started tearing papers and throwing them, which is again objectionable,” Tenneti told ANI. “This is not the behaviour one is expected to come up with in Parliament.”

According to the Chair, a few MPs charged towards him, tore official papers, and threw them in his direction. Some members also attempted to climb onto the table of the House Secretary-General, further escalating the situation.

Following the disruption, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju moved a resolution seeking the suspension of the concerned MPs. He said the members had acted in “utter disregard” of the authority of the Chair and the dignity of the House.

“They also tore papers and threw them on the Chair and were named by the Chair for their behaviour,” Rijiju said while moving the motion.

The House passed the resolution by a voice vote, suspending the MPs for the remainder of the session. Those suspended include Congress MPs Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C Kiran Kumar Reddy, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Prashant Padole and Dean Kuriakose, along with CPI(M) MP S. Venkatesan.

Soon after the resolution was adopted, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day amid continued uproar.

Later in the day, the Congress party, led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest outside the Parliament building, condemning the suspension of its MPs.

The TDP, to which Tenneti belongs, is a key constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
