Hearts are thought to be close to agreeing a season-long loan deal for Cardiff City midfielder Loic Damour.
The Frenchman has been on Hearts’ radar for a while, but efforts to sign him have been stepped up in recent days after initial interest cooled when Republic of Ireland international midfielder Glenn Whelan became available.
There is now the possibility that both could arrive however, with Hearts awaiting a decision from Whelan having held talks last week.
A deal for Damour could reportedly be done before the weekend and would give Craig Levein a more experienced option in central midfield.
The 28-year-old wasn’t even given a squad number by Cardiff this season and clearly isn’t part of Neil Warnock’s plans.
Despite that, the view from Bluebirds fans seems to be that while he won’t get a look, Damour was a decent back-up option to have on a relatively low wage.
With Peter Haring out injured for several weeks, Damour would plug a big gap in the Hearts midfield. Andy Irving has been the deeper lying central midfielder in recent games, but is still inexperienced and is more of a technical footballer than a destroyer.
If Hearts can add Whelan as well as Damour, they'll have added steel, know-how and variety in the middle of the park and probably in the eyes of fans turn a decent transfer window in to a very good one.
