LOI TV to return as fixtures for new League of Ireland season are released

Damien Duff’s first game in charge of Shelbourne is one of the standout fixtures on the Premier Division’s opening night.

The Republic of Ireland legend will face St Patrick’s Athletic in a tasty Dublin derby at Tolka Park on February 18.

Duff was appointed as the Reds boss last month in what is his first job in senior management.

The game will also mark the first competitive outing for Tim Clancy as the new St Pat’s boss.

His Saints - the FAI Cup holders - will play league champions Shamrock Rovers in the President’s Cup the week before.

Venue, date and kick-off time for that curtain raiser to the new season will be confirmed in January.

Elsewhere on the Premier Division’s opening night, Rovers will host newly promoted UCD at Tallaght Stadium.

Stephen O’Donnell’s spell at Dundalk gets underway with a cracker against Derry City, who boast ex-Lilywhite stars Patrick McEleney and Michael Duffy in their ranks.

And all eyes will be on Richmond Park on April 8 when O’Donnell makes his return to St Pat’s after his controversial exit from the Saints after the recent FAI Cup final.

Finn Harps host Drogheda United in those opening fixtures, with Drogs now under the control of Kevin Doherty in 2022 following Clancy’s exit.

And on Saturday night, February 19, Sligo Rovers face Bohemians at the Showgrounds.

As expected, there will be no league fixtures during the March and September international windows.

There are four rounds of Monday night Premier Division fixtures - on February 28, March 14, April 18 and May 23.

The first Shamrock Rovers-Bohemians derby of the 2022 season takes place at Tallaght Stadium on March 11.

There will be no League Cup competition played in 2022 but the season will conclude with the FAI Cup final at Aviva Stadium on November 13.

In the First Division, Bray Wanderers’ clash with Cork City is the pick of the fixtures on the opening night.

Martin Russell’s Athlone Town host Waterford, Wexford face Treaty United and Longford Town entertain Cobh Ramblers.

With just nine teams competing following Cabinteely’s takeover of Bray - the club will compete in Bray’s name - Galway United sit out the opening weekend.

The LOI TV streaming service will return next season and details for the platform will be confirmed in the New Year.
