'Logical solution' - Manchester United fans have selection theory after Victor Lindelof injury

Manchester United have been dealt an injury blow for their trip to Atalanta as Victor Lindelof misses out on the visit to Bergamo after picking up a knock in training.

The Swede was integrated into the back three for the win over Spurs as he featured alongside Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted for a system change which paid dividends and ultimately ended Nuno Espirito Santo's short-term reign in North London.

Manchester United's official Twitter account tweeted the 25-man squad which featured Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba noting Lindelof's knock which had fans pondering over selection options for the Group F clash.

United will be looking to strengthen their grip at the top of the group following the 3-2 win over Tuesday's opponents which saw them leapfrog Gian Piero Gasperini's side.

A win would see the gap between the two sides stretch to nine points but should Villarreal beat Young Boys the gap at the top will remain at two points.

MEN Sports looks at how fans took to the news of Lindelof missing the next Champions League match and their preference for a replacement.

With calls for Eric Bailly to feature, he could deputise for the Sweden international and make his first Champions League start since the 3-1 win over PSG in 2019 when Marcus Rashford scored the decisive goal from the spot.

Edinson Cavani was also named in the squad travelling to Italy after he trudged off in the dying embers of Saturday's win over Spurs with a knock, although it was thought to be cramp.

He aided Cristiano Ronaldo in the attacking workload with the 36-year-old reaping the rewards as he became the oldest player since Didier Drogba to score and assist in the Premier League.

Ronaldo superbly volleyed home in the first half to give Manchester United the lead before laying the second goal on a plate for the Uruguayan.
