Loganair to fly to Aberdeen from East Midlands Airport after Brussels and Inverness announcement

Flights to a third destination have been announced by an airline which last week launched flights to Brussels and Inverness from East Midlands Airport.

Loganair, the Castle Donington airport’s newest operator today (Sept 9) announced flights to Aberdeen.

The Scottish-based airline launched the Brussels and Inverness flights last Monday (Sept 2) to the skirl of the bagpipes accompanied by Scottish dancers, filling a gap left by the collapse of flybmi earlier this year.

From April next year, the airline will start a six-day, year-round service, for business and leisure passengers to Aberdeen airport used, among others, by members of the Royal Family visiting the Queen’s Scottish seat at Balmoral.

Loganair has launched a third new flight from East Midlands Airport (Loganair)

Starting on April 24, its 49-seat Embraer 145 jet with a flight time of 80 minutes, will fly passengers to Scotland’s “Granite City” where they can make connections for Shetland and Orkney.

The service opens up breaks in Aberdeen and attractions including the majestic Cairngorms National Park, world-famous Dunnottar Castle and the Speyside whisky region.

Flights include a generous hold baggage allowance of 20kg and 6kg for cabin luggage and in-flight refreshments.

Loganair commercial director, Kay Ryan said: “We’re pleased to be able to further strengthen our presence at East Midlands Airport just a week after our inaugural services there, supporting the region’s economy and offering more choice to travellers.

“There are important business links between the two cities which should be boosted by these frequent flights.

“Aberdeen also has an extensive leisure offering which should make it a popular destination next year for visitors keen to explore Scotland.”

Karen Smart, East Midlands Airport’s managing director, says:“Flights to Aberdeen not only provide passengers with more choice but easy access to one of the most architecturally distinctive cities in Europe and Scotland’s East Coast.

“It’s also an important route for serving the offshore oil and gas industry and therefore will be key for business travellers too.

“Today’s announcement further enhances the network of domestic routes available from EMA making it easier to visit many parts of the UK for pleasure or business.”
