A Loganair flight was forced to make a sudden u-turn to Edinburgh Airport after declaring an emergency Squawk 7700.

The emergency call, which is used to communicate a 'distress' or 'emergency' on board, was communicated to air-traffic control while the plane soared over Dumfries this morning.

Loganair flight LOG321, which was flying from Edinburgh to Southampton, turned back towards Edinburgh Airport when it reached the Scottish Borders, reports The Herald.
