Loganair has announced it is adding extra flights from Glasgow Airport to the likes of Benbecula, Orkney and Shetland Islands.
The number of seats available on the Benbecula route will increase by one third – and the service will now be a year round operation – while journey times will be reduced by five to ten minutes per flight.
Meanwhile a new 70-seat turboprops will fly on Loganair’s routes from Glasgow to Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands and Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands.
The new services will be on sale from today (Monday, December 16).
The airline also confirmed their expanding schedule at Glasgow Airport also includes:
- Five flights each week from Glasgow to Cornwall Airport Newquay over the summer
- Six weekly flight between Glasgow and Donegal during the peak summer
- 16 weekly flights each way between Glasgow and Islay
- A choice of morning, afternoon and evening flight times from Glasgow to East Midlands
- Evening flights every weekday between Glasgow and Cardiff from 2020
The airline has created extra jobs at Glasgow operation, including hiring several pilots formerly employed by Thomas Cook before it collapsed in September, to gear up for the expansion.
Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s chief executive said: “Today’s announcement represents a significant investment in our services at our home base airport in Glasgow.
"The upgrades to our Highlands and Islands routes will be well received by island travellers, and the improved timetables and extra services on our other routes from Glasgow will provide new flexibility for both business and leisure travellers alike.”
