A Lockerbie woman is celebrating after her rescue dog came through its first hip operation.
Marion Little, 61, had launched an online appeal for funding to meet the huge £12,000 fees for two ops.
The first surgery took place last Thursday and Duke, a Spanish Mastin, successfully came through the marathon surgery of six hours and 45 minutes.
He is now back home and Marion told how a fellow rescue dog fan had loaned her the remaining cash for the first £6,000 surgery costs.
She said: “He has adopted two rescue dogs from me before and when he read my plight on Facebook he came up with the off which was fantastic.
“The vet has looked over Duke and says his two hips are as bad as each other, so now we start saving for the next operation which could be in six weeks time.
“Duke has to go back and have check ups on his wounds and also get more x-rays.
“He has been very heavily sedated for days but was up and about the day after the operation.”
Duke is 17 months old and Marion rescued him from Spain. He has weak hips which his mother, a street dog, also suffered from.
She thanked the Standard for highlighting the dog’s op costs and also praised readers for donating £2,000 after first learning of the issue in our pages.
