Lockerbie Old School Project Group looking for volunteers for spruce up

An appeal has been made by the Lockerbie Old School Project Group for volunteers to help spruce up the area around it.

There will be a three hour clean up from 10am on Monday and all equipment will be provided for those who answer the call to lend a helping hand.

The group was set up in 2013 by local residents who wanted to secure the 140-year-old former Dryfesdale Public School building as a community resource after it was deemed surplus to requirements by the council.

Through the process of asset transfer from the council the property, in Dryfe Road, changed ownership to the community in October last year.

And the group is currently working on architectural plans to breathe new life into the building.

A spokesperson said: “We need to get the area around the old school clean and tidy again and would love it if people could come and give us a hand. We would be very grateful.

“It won’t all be hard work. We’ll also have time for a wee blether, have some of our latest plans available for them to see, and cake and refreshments as a thank you for coming to help us.”

Tesco have donated brooms to help with the clean-up.
