A Lockerbie man is raising money for charity in memory of his brother.
Alan Murray is doing a sponsored walk in aid of D and G Mental Health Association and youth development at Mid Annandale football club.
He plans to walk nine miles around the town from King Edward’s Park where brother Gary played for Mids in the number nine shirt.
And he will be joined by family and friends of the 49-year-old father of three whose recent sudden death stunned the community.
Bus driver Alan, 50, said: “There are quite a lot of people wanting to take part and raise money in Gary’s memory.
“He was the top goalscorer in a season for Mids wearing the number nine shirt and I thought it would be appropriate to do nine miles.”
Gary, known as Mugsy, was a youth team coach for the club and had previously been a player, manager and committee member.
Club chairman George Trudt described him as “a Mids legend on and off the park”.
He was a prolific striker and holds the record for most goals in a season for Mids - 61 in 1994/95.
The sponsored walk is planned for 9.30am on Sunday, October 4.
Alan said: “Whoever wants to take part is welcome to join in. If they can contact me beforehand we will arrange different starting times five minutes apart to ensure we comply with the rules and regulations on social distancing.”
