Lockerbie Community Council has questioned developers over plans for land at the site of the old school in the town.
Cunninghame Housing Association (CHA) sent a representative to last week’s council meeting to answer questions from members over proposals to redevelop the site on
Dryfe Road.
Senior development officer Alan Sommerville announced that CHA and Lockerbie Old School will be working with Turning Point Scotland to build seven flats for people with complex needs, carer accommodation and a community wellbeing centre.
Parking was one of a number of issues highlighted by members.
Community council chairperson Jan Andrews said: “I’ve got concerns from a health and safety aspect.
“In December people on Dryfe Road were given notices to say they weren’t allowed to park at the Old School but they’ve parked there forever. People always park there and there was never any written agreement.
“However, they got a letter before Christmas to say they couldn’t park there and metal barriers were put up. So cars that parked there now park on the main road so it’s reducing the width of the road even more.
“It’s caused congestion. It’s a narrow road to the school so it gets very busy.”
There are also concerns over GP provision in the town and the community council felt a lot of their questions weren’t answered at the meeting.
Jan added: “I asked about the doctor’s surgery. Have they got capacity for these extra people coming to the town as there’s an issue there already with capacity?
“I asked three times on Tuesday night: ‘Are you going to let people come back in and park here’ and he couldn’t answer me.
“We thought it was going to be a community hub but it’s now changed to half of it being sheltered housing for people with disabilities along with Turning Point. When was the community consulted that that was going to happen? We were confused.
