Lockerbie businessman uses 3D printer to make ear protectors and facemask visors

A caring Lockerbie businessman is keeping himself busy in lockdown.

Scott Tattersall has been working round the clock from home, producing ear protectors and facemask visors for key workers with his 3D printer.

Proud wife Nicola said Scott, 39, is surviving on just four hours sleep a night in a bid to make as many as he can and distribute them as quickly as possible.

She said: “I am loving all the recognition key workers are getting at the moment as they totally deserve it and more.

“It doesn’t bear thinking about what life would be like right now if it wasn’t for them. They are true heroes and they need to be well protected and that’s where my husband has come in.

“He’s doing his best to help provide PPE to care homes, nurses, doctors, pharmacists and support workers.

“He has had his 3D printer on 24/7 for days now and only surviving on around four hours sleep at night.

“He knew there was a high demand for these items but the extent of it was never imaginable. It is so much greater than he ever thought.

“Scott has had loads of people asking for them for either themselves or loved ones whose ears are really hurting from the elastic from the paper face masks or having to wear goggles to protect their eyes as they have no full-face mask visors.”

Nicola added: “Scott doesn’t want recognition for what he is doing as it’s keeping him going while in lockdown and he insists it’s nothing compared to what these key workers are having to face on a daily basis.

“However, our seven-year-old daughter Bethany and I think he deserves it. He always goes out of his way to help people.”

Scott is aiming to make around 300 visors and 200 ear protectors and is asking for members of the public to donate towards the cost of buying supplies.

It costs £20 for a 1kg spool of filament which will make around 35-40 visors and £15 for 100 clear plastic sheets.
