Lockdown shopping Ireland: Penneys massive reopening queues as customers 'wait hours' in Level 3

Shoppers have been queueing for hours as non-essential retail services return this morning.

Customers were spotted outside Penneys stores in the early hours of Tuesday as Level Five restrictions were officially lifted.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin confirmed last week that we would be returning to a modified version of Level Three.

This would allow hairdressers, gyms and all retailers allowed to open their doors once again.

And one of the most anticipated reopenings was that of clothing store Penneys.

RTE News reports that some customers outside the Mary Street location had been queuing since 4:30am.

It comes after Penneys confirmed last week that its Irish shops will be open until at least 9pm on weekdays throughout December, with some open even later.

CEO Paul Marchant said: “We are delighted to re-open our stores in Ireland on 1st December with longer shopping hours to give our customers more time to safely do their festive shopping.

"We have everything this season that our customers expect from Penneys, including our famous Christmas jumpers, festive pyjamas and much, much more. All of our extensive safety measures remain in place to help ensure shopping at Penneys is an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone.”
