Lockdown shopping Ireland: Lidl's much needed update on Cork Street store closure baffling customers

Lidl Ireland has issued a much needed update on one of their Dublin stores which has been closed for months.

Their Cork Street shop has been shut for renovations since mid-January but their delayed reopening has left customers baffled.

One local issued her concern on Twitter asking the retail giant if the shop would be opening its doors again any time soon.

She said: "When is your Cork Street shop opening?

"It has been closed since mid January for 'renovations' and I honestly do not understand if it isn’t essential, why they even started it in level 5?"

She concluded by saying: "Nearly 4 months on and it’s still not open."

Lidl were straight back with a response apologising for any inconvenience caused to local shoppers.

They said: "Hi there, unfortunately due to current restrictions, we were forced to stop construction on our Cork Street store.

"We hope to have an update on beginning construction again soon. Thanks."

In May, non-essential retail is set to get the go ahead with stores like Penneys, River Island and Brown Thomas all set to open their doors once again.

However the government has insisted that this will be done on a phased basis. Click and collect services are likely to be the first to resume before the phase reopening of other retail.

However a cautious approach is still being taken regarding the lifting of restrictions.

The government has said that if the transmission of the virus reaches acceptable levels, the vaccination programme progresses as planned and public health advice allows a number of measures will be considered from May 4.
