Lockdown Scots idiot broke bail while flouting lockdown restrictions to attend 'noisy party' 15 miles away

A Scots man who travelled 15 miles to an illicit party during lockdown has avoided a jail term.

Ian Carmichael, 37, was snared because the bash was so loud that neighbours called the police.

Officers arrested Carmichael after realising he was breaking bail conditions by being in the company of his partner and party host Catherine Mackinnon.

Sheriff John Rafferty said: “A prison sentence would clearly be justified because this showed deliberate disregard for court orders.

“Your record shows you are no stranger to disregarding court orders.”

Instead, the sheriff ordered Carmichael carry out 200 hours of work in the community.

Prosecutor Lisa Marshall told Dundee Sheriff Court: “He had a bail condition not to approach Catherine Mackinnon.

"There was a report of a disturbance at her address.

“There appeared to be a party ongoing and the accused was traced along with her.”

Carmichael, who ignored lockdown to travel from his home in Coupar Angus to the party in Perth, had only been freed on bail a fortnight earlier.

He admitted breaching the conditions on May 13.

David Holmes, defending, said: “He has been with this lady for a short time.

"She is older than he is and a vulnerable individual and is finding it difficult without him.

“He had the requirement that he didn’t attend the property. The neighbours have seen him there and reported him.”
