Lockdown Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon set to review level four restrictions

Scotland's lockdown is set to be reviewed tomorrow morning.

Nicola Sturgeon's Cabinet will consider infection levels and take advice from experts before making a decision on whether or not to change any of the current level four restrictions. She'll make a statement on the outcome of the meeting in the Scottish Parliament a short time later at 2pm.

The move comes two weeks after the First Minister told Scots the rate of Covid-19 infection was still too high to remove the strict stay at home message.

However, as the death rate continues to rise and more new cases confirmed there remains significant concern the NHS could easily become overwhelmed if more social interaction is permitted.

Speaking after the last review on January 19, Ms Sturgeon said: "We cannot afford to see the rate of infections start to rise again - which from such a high baseline, it could all too easily do if we start to interact more with each other than we are doing just now."

Children will also find out if they will be allowed to return to school any time soon.

Ms Sturgeon told families she hoped to set out a "firmer timetable" for getting youngsters back into the classroom "if its at all possible"

The move comes more than five weeks after Scotland imposed level four lockdown across the mainland, and a fortnight after the Scottish Government opted twice to delay a return to school for all but the children of key workers and the most vulnerable.
