Lockdown rules easing in Scotland today - including eye exams, sports and counselling

Scotland is taking a slow and steady approach to easing out of lockdown and from today there will be a few changes.

On Thursday, Nicola Sturgeon reviewed lockdown rules and set out a number of indicative dates for changes.

Some of them come into affect from today (3 August).

Last Thursday saw a major change for people in the shielding category, who are now allowed to follow the same advice as the rest of the public.

The Scottish Government also confirmed that school pupils will be expected to return to school full-time from August 11 with some new measures in place.

Here are some of the changes to lockdown that will come into effect from today:

Lockdown changes from today (3 August)

Eye exams and other routine eye care services can resume within either the optometrists or at patients' homes.

Counselling services in Scotland can also relaunch from today, which includes drug and alcohol support groups.

Some rules around sports coaching have been relaxed with coaches now permitted to meet more than four households outside at a time.
