Lockdown rule flouter who drove to Glasgow to collect Dior handbag snared by cops after speeding at 100mph

A driver has been reported after breaking lockdown restrictions after attempting a 600mile round trip from Birmingham to Glasgow to collect a designer handbag.

The car was stopped in its tracks by Cumbria Roads Police at Killington Lake service station as it journeyed from Scotland back down south at 100mph.

Police say the driver explained the purpose of the journey was to pick up a Dior handbag and they were speeding as a passenger was 'unwell and wanted to get home faster'.

The driver has now been reported for alleged speeding and travelling while uninsured as well as breaking lockdown restrictions.

As a result of the lack of insurance the car was seized and the occupants were forced to take a two-and-a-half hour taxi back to Birmingham.

Cumbria Roads police tweeted: “What is NOT essential travel? Well possibly Birmingham>Glasgow to collect a Dior bag. Especially when your passenger’s unwell & urges you to get home faster. But at 100mph? And of course you should also be insured. Driver reported for all 3. Taxi to Birmingham please! 2275”

We previously told how four Scots were stopped by cops as they attempted to travel the 400mile journey from Glasgow to London.

Officers from Cumbria Roads Policing Unit stopped the Audi on the M6 in the North of England on Saturday morning and fined the occupants.
