Lockdown rule breakers slapped with anti-social behaviour tickets by police in Pollok Park

Four people have been handed anti-social behaviour tickets by police officers after meeting in Pollok Park in Glasgow.

Scots  police  have now been issued with the power to prosecute or fine people who are not following social distancing measures introduced earlier this week.

Unveiling the new law, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said people who do not comply with the lockdown rules could be "liable to an on-the-spot fine and, ultimately, if necessary, prosecuted".

She stressed she hoped they will not have to be used, adding: "They are there to make sure we can ensure the right things are done to help us delay the spread of the  virus.

Under the guidelines you are not allowed to:

- Gather in groups of two or more, unless you live alongside the people you're with.
- Meet up with friends, family or loved ones if they live in a different house.
- Shop for non-essential items.

You are allowed to:

- Leave your home once a day to shop for basic necessities, like food or medicine.
- Exercise outside daily, like a run, walk or bike ride in a park, as long as you are not in a group of two or more.
- Attend medical appointments.
- Provide care for someone else or help a vulnerable person.
- Travel to and from work, but only if it is "absolutely necessary" and you cannot work from home.
- Attend a funeral if you are immediate family.

But the people spotted by a police helicopter in Pollok Park breached the new rules and ended up being confronted by officers.

The Police Scotland Air Support Unit revealed that the group were issued with Anti-social behaviour tickets.

A tweet by the unit alongside a picture of the group gathered in the park said: "Four persons issued with ASB tickets at Pollok Park, Glasgow this afternoon. Our message is clear: STAY AT HOME."
