Lockdown restrictions that could be eased next week after Nicola Sturgeon's review

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to announce a raft of changes to the lockdown in Scotland tomorrow.

The Scottish Government is legally bound to review the current restrictions in the country on a three-weekly basis.

Scotland moved into phase three of the Government’s route-map out of lockdown more than a month ago - but most easing of restrictions was staggered over a number of weeks due to public health guidance.

Now more parts of Scotland’s economy could reopen as early as next week as the country works its way back to some normality amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Snooker halls, bowling alleys and amusement arcades are among those that could potentially welcome back customers from August 24.

Here is a list of things that have been earmarked for resumption from Monday, August 24 under the Scottish Government’s indicative dates:

  • Live events (outdoors) with physical distancing, enhanced hygiene and restricted numbers following relevant guidance
  • Organised outdoor contact sports can resume for all ages, following the guidance of relevant sports bodies
  • Snooker/ pool halls and indoor bowling facilities can re-open – following guidance.
  • Bingo halls can re-open with physical distancing and following guidance
  • Driving lessons can resume – following guidance
  • Amusement arcades and casinos can re-open following guidance including enhanced hygiene.
  • Funfairs - both static and travelling - can re-open subject to relevant guidance.

Further changes to the lockdown could take effect from the middle of September.

These include the reopening of gyms, live indoor music venues and sports stadia.

Non-essential offices and call centres might also been given the green light to reopen from next month.
