Lockdown refund rules for gyms, weddings, holidays and MoTs

England has suddenly been plunged into a second lockdown which makes a number of things illegal - including going to the gym, going on holiday and weddings.

And with many of us now off work, or facing reduced hours because of coronavirus, lockdown and furlough, it is essential to get back every penny you are owed.

If you have paid for things you are not currently able to use - you may be able to get a refund, reports The Mirror.

Here are your refund rights for some common outgoings that will be disrupted in England this month.

Gyms

Gyms cannot open in England during the lockdown. If you have a subscription, you are entitled to a refund for November.

Contact your gym for details. Alternatively, you could ask them to extend your membership by another month when the current term comes to an end.

Weddings

Weddings cannot go ahead in November - so if you have anything booked you are entitled to a refund.

This will include venues, catering, photography etc. Alternatively, you may just want to agree a new date with all your providers.

Holidays

All holidays are banned under England's lockdown rules. Ask your holiday provider if it is going ahead - this will force them to confirm the cancellation.

If you cancel, your refund may be more difficult to come by. But if the company cancels, then they will have to pay up.

House moves

You can still view houses for sale and you can still physically move home, but only if you can do so whilst being ‘Covid safe’.

MoTs

MoTs and services are still allowed in lockdown. If your vehicle is due to have its MOT this month, it is important that you get this done.

The position in relation to the above matters is different in Northern Ireland and Scotland, where there is currently no national lockdown but instead tiered restrictions.

The restrictions in Wales end on Monday.

If any of these restrictions cause a business to cancel a service, you will be entitled to a refund.
