Lockdown latest: Nicola Sturgeon confirms hospitality and household gatherings under scrutiny

Hospitality and household gatherings are on the list of things being considered for new restrictions Nicola Sturgeon confirmed today.

She revealed that transmission of cases in these areas is giving increasing cause for concern.

Speaking at her daily briefing the First Minister said the Scottish Government has spent the weekend thrashing out a strategy as the number of coronavirus cases across the country continues to rise.

She plans to make a formal announcement to the nation on a new package of measures aimed at curbing the infection rate in the coming days.

Ms Sturgeon highlighted ongoing concerns over the spread of the disease between households, pointing out: "When this virus gets into a household it is very likely to infect everybody in that household, even if a younger person is the first one to be infected, if there are older people, they are likely to be infected too."

And when asked directly what areas are under consideration, Ms Sturgeon pointed out that household gathering are being discussed along with other indoor areas where people mix.

She added: "Clearly this brings into scope hospitality and these are areas we are looking at carefully as well.

"What we have tried to do over the weekend is look at a whole range of options, analyse and consider their impact individually and collectively and tried to come to a package of measures with a clear objective in mind."
