Lockdown joy for Ayrshire council leader as second daughter is born

North Ayrshire Council leader Joe Cullinane welcomed his second daughter in to the world today while in lockdown.

The Labour councillor’s wife, Alyson, gave birth to baby Caitlin Emily Cullinane at 11.45 this morning.

Proud dad of two Joe spoke about what it’s like to have a ‘lockdown' baby’.

He said: “We made our peace with how it would be different when the coronavirus got serious in the UK.

"I am glad I got to be there for the birth but to be honest the only thing that matters is baby and mum's health.

“There’s no visiting allowed just birthing partners, so once my wife moves to the ward that’s us until we can pick them to come home.”

The couple are no strangers to having a baby during a historic moment.

Their first daughter, Rosie, was born on 2015 General Election day.

Joe added: “Rosie is excited and can’t wait to meet her wee sister when mum and Caitlin are ready to come home."
