Lockdown Ireland latest update including the big changes on the way from April 12

The beginning of lockdown restrictions easing in Ireland is only hours away although for many of us there's less happening than we had hoped.

The Government is being very cautious in opening the country back up in line with advice from NPHET about the easing of restrictions.

Yesterday there was 455 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Ireland, which health experts say is still too high a number to allow everything to go back to normal.

But there is an end in sight with over a million doses of the vaccine now administered in Ireland and supply increasing each week.

As of tomorrow, April 12, there will be some restrictions lifted with parts of society beginning to open up.

They include:

  • All schools will return to full in class teaching
  • You can meet one other household outside in a place such as a park - but not in gardens of homes
  • You can now visit anywhere in your county and travel up to 20km from your home if crossing county borders
  • Residential projects can restart as well as early-learning and childcare projects in construction

Later this month outdoor sports facilities will be able to re-open along with outdoor attractions such as Dublin Zoo.

There's still no definite update on when non-essential retail, hairdressers, barbers and outdoor dining will be able to open up.

But many are expecting further lifting measures to take place in May ahead of society opening up more for Summer in June.
