Lockdown Ireland: Everything we know that definitely won't be changing on March 5 as plans become clearer

We are just under a month away from the end date which the Government has given for the review of current Covid restrictions.

Cabinet will meet before March 5 to discuss what measures will be taken from beyond that date.

However sadly given the high level of Covid infection across the country, the overwhelming message from officials has been that there will be no major change from beyond that date.

Taosieach Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly have all echoed each others remarks that the country will be facing something along the lines of Level Five after March 5.

The Tanaiste told Fine Gael party members that Level Three on March 5 was not in question which rules out a large amount of restrictions changing.

Here's what we know definitely won't change on March 5;

Pubs and restaurants to stay closed

One of the first casualties of the Covid-19 pandemic was the pubs and restaurants across the country which have remained shut for most of the last 12 months.

While there was some brief reopening at Christmas it is pretty much guaranteed they will stay closed on March 5.

Non essential retail

Again non essential retailers were briefly opened over the Christmas period before being ordered to close their doors again.

And it's unlikely for the likes of Penneys, Brown Thomas and other retailers to open their doors to customers again until Covid cases are significantly lower than they are now which will likely take more than a month to happen.

Sporting events

Sadly other than elite sports no matches will likely be allowed to go ahead from March 5.

Large weddings

Currently only 6 people are allowed to attend weddings and sadly that is very unlikely to change given fears around large gatherings and other events.

Gyms to stay closed

Gyms are also very likely to stay shut come March 5 as government will be keen to keep people from congregating indoors.

No indoor or outdoor exercise group activities are allowed under restrictions and that will likely remain.

Inter-county travel

There has been no official announcement on what travel restrictions will be in place from March 5. Currently the country is under one of the most strict travel measures with the 5km rule in place.

While this could possibly be lifted slightly, inter-county travel is very unlikely as it is only permitted at Level 3 and beyond so we can't see this changing by March.
