Lockdown ignored as 60 rule breakers discovered at beauty spot

Up to 60 people were discovered breaking lockdown rules in just three hours after police were repeatedly called to a beauty spot.

Officers found dozens of cars at Gleniffer Braes in Paisley after multiple reports of illegal gatherings.

The problem became so bad that Renfrewshire Council stepped in to close Robertson car park - better know as the carpark in the sky - amid reports of continued breaches of restrictions.

However, they were forced to reopen it over road safety concerns as drivers then opted to park on the road, despite repeated warnings, the Paisley Daily Express reports.

Officers made several visits to the spot between 7pm and 10pm on Thursday night and moved on between 50 and 60 people.

A Police Scotland spokesman explained: "Police will continue to carry out patrols in the area and we would encourage members of the public to continue to act responsibly in relation to all Scottish Government Covid-19 legislation.

"We will continue to engage, explain and encourage members of the public before moving to enforcement.

"The vast majority of people have stepped up to take responsibility and our determination and collective effort to tackle this virus must now continue in the difficult times ahead."

Four people were issued with fixed penalty notices and 20 cars moved on at the same spot just two weeks ago.

In a separate incident a three people were issued with fixed penalty notices after police were called to reports of a disturbance in Lomond Gardens, Elderslie just after midnight on Friday.

A house party was found to be underway at the house.
