Lockdown end date Scotland: 'immediate' change to outdoor exercise guidance expected over weekend

Nicola Sturgeon used her daily briefing today to reiterate her decision to extend Scotland's lockdown for a further period, "while of course keeping the situation under ongoing - indeed daily - review".

She said that she spoke to Boris yesterday along with the First Ministers of Wales and Northern Ireland to say that Scotland's coronavirus lockdown restrictions will stay in place for now.

Ms. Sturgeon also said that she expects testing capacity to exceed 12000 per day by the start of next week.

She added that: "The four UK nations may well move at different speeds if our data about the spread of the virus says that this is necessary to suppress it." However, they will "of course" continue to coordinate their planning and messaging "as far as possible".

She went on to say that there would be a change to the guidance on outdoor exercise, and that is the only planned change to the Scottish lockdown restrictions.

She said: "In line with that I confirmed that the only change that we are considering in the immediate term is to the guidance on outdoor exercise, I mentioned that yesterday and I will give you a further update on that at the weekend."

The First Minister also made it clear that she intended to stick to the Scottish Government's current Stay At Home position, which she says is based on the evidence and what they think is right for the protection of people in Scotland.

Ms Sturgeon added that people should also be wearing face coverings in shops and on public transport, before confirming: "You must stay at home, please stay at home, except for essential purposes."
