Lockdown Christmas shopping: Smyths Ireland issue statement on popular toy over child injury fear as parents warned

Smyths Ireland has issued a statement about a popular toy over child injury fears.

Parents have been warned about the affected toy - the TP Roundwood Playcentre with a product code of 183206.

There is concern that a 6mm thick hook could fail, causing the swing to collapse and potentially resulting in injury.

A total of 741 of these toys have been sold in Ireland.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued a notice of the recall, and said all customers should stop using the product immediately.

A CCPC spokesman said: "A Smyths Toys HQ UC is carrying out a voluntary recall of the “TP Roundwood Playcentre’ with product code 183206.

"A risk has been identified where the 6mm thick S-hook may fail and cause the swing to fall, causing injury.

"There were 741 affected products sold in the Republic of Ireland.

"Smyths will contact affected consumers via email with next steps.

"If you believe that you may have purchased an affected product, discontinue use immediately and contact the Smyths customer service team on 076 888 6244 or through their contact form."
