Lockdown blow for Lidl Ireland as dozens of products to hit shelves in January pulled

Lidl's middle aisle will continue to be open during Level Five lockdown but all non-essential items will be pulled from shelves.

The popular supermarket chain, famed for its bargain middle aisle, must comply with Government rules of essential retail only.

This means a number of items that were supposed to go on sale later this month, will now be rescheduled.

A Lidl spokesperson said: "Since the Government’s announcement outlining the new Level 5 restrictions from close of business on 31 Dec, we have taken a number of steps to ensure we are fully compliant with the new regulations.

"We will not be putting on sale any items that are deemed  non-essential  – e.g. casual clothing and baby toys etc. We are also in the process of removing from sale any residual stock of previous non-essential promotions.

"We will continue to sell items that are classed as  essential  e.g. for upkeep of residence and businesses, safety clothing, repair and maintenance of cars and bikes etc. in our middle aisles."

Some of the items that were supposed to hit the aisle were and official Ireland rugby union ball, and NFL licensed cap, a Huawei smart watch, mens sliders and much more.

They are instead expected to go on sale after lockdown.
