The government has stated that lockdown will end in England on December 2 but people have been left wondering the exact time it will finish.
From today, England moves into a tiered system with the Liverpool City Region entering tier 2.
With the government saying lockdown ends today, there has been some confusion over whether that means it ended at midnight, or if today is the final day of restrictions with businesses opening again tomorrow.
We can confirm the lockdown has now ended, so places can open up again today. The government website states: "The new rules will come into effect from the beginning of Wednesday 2 December."
Of course the reopening of non-essential shops, pubs, restaurants, gyms, salons and other businesses is subject to the tiered system. That means it will be different across the country depending on where you live.
Liverpool has been placed into tier 2, meaning restaurants, salons, cinemas, theatres and more can reopen from today.
In tier 2, pubs and bars can reopen providing they operate as a restaurant. Alcohol can only be served alongside “substantial meals”, so going out just for a drink isn't an option.
Table service must be provided by businesses selling food and drink, with last orders at 10pm and closing time 11pm.
Takeaways can continue beyond 10pm as long as this is through delivery, drive thru or click and collect.
Businesses including casinos, cinemas, theatres, bingo halls and bowling alleys must also close by 11pm but can stay open to conclude performances started before 10pm.
