Lochmaben garden opening to the public on August 7 and 8 under Scotland's Gardens scheme

This weekend sees the last of the Dumfriesshire private gardens open for charity under Scotland’s Gardens scheme this year.

Lochmaben’s Shawhead – at 7 Vendace Drive – is described by area organisers for the scheme, which is supported by The Standard, as “a really stunning garden overlooking Mill Loch”.

Open tomorrow and on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm, it will raise funds for the Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust and SGS charities including Maggie’s Cancer Care centres from admission charges of £5 adults (accompanied children free).

On the edge of Lochmaben with views overlooking Mill Loch, it has immaculately maintained lawns and well-furnished borders bursting with colour and a great collection of hardy perennials and grasses with conifers, shrubs and trees providing all year round interest.

It will also be possible to enjoy a walk around Mill Loch which takes about 30-40 minutes from the garden. For keen walkers, the nearby Castle Loch also has a lovely walk of around three miles.
