Lochfoot haulage firm marks 100th anniversary with fundraiser for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance

A family-run livestock haulage company is celebrating its 100th anniversary by raising thousands of pounds for a charity close to its heart.

Lewis Kelly lost his right leg after a quad bike accident at his family’s Airdrie Farm near Kirkbean in October 2015.

So to give something back, and to mark 100 years in business for Lochfoot’s R Davidson and Sons Ltd, the Davidson family decided to raise money for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, which airlifted eight-year-old Lewis to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

At the weekend, Lewis’ grandfather Bobby Davidson and some pals headed to Arran to tour the island in a 72-year-old Commer lorry.

As well as collecting donations, they picked up some sheep which went under the hammer at Dumfries market on Wednesday.

And their efforts mean more than £4,000 will be raised for the charity which saved Lewis’ life.

Bobby said: “I’ve just been gobsmacked. Going round Arran was a bit of a gimmick for the 10 of us.

“We met every week with our own men’s shed but we haven’t been able to meet much due to covid so this was something different.

“It took over three years to restore the truck and people in Arran were so generous – we had already raised about £3,000 before the sale.

“The sheep sold for £913 and the market made it up to £1,000.

“With Covid all the shows are off so this was our way of doing something to raise money.”

Anyone looking to raise money can do so using the JustGiving page set up by Bobby’s daughter Emily Davidson at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/emily-davidson6
