Loch Ness Monster nearly washed away as 'crazy' flash flooding rips through iconic Scots hotel

Shocking footage shows the moment 'crazy' flash flooding devastated an iconic Loch Ness hotel.

The famous Loch Ness Clansman was gutted by the surge of water sent pouring through the car park after a burn burst its banks.

The popular hotel is the only hotel overlooking the world famous Loch, home to the Loch Ness Monster.

The devastated owners have been left counting the cost after water poured through the ground floor of the building and flooded the gift shop.

Footage of the incident was shared on social media last night, which bosses described as 'crazy'.

The clip shows a torrent of water pouring through the car park like a river and then cascading down stairs and hills to the road below with the scenic Loch as a background.

A statue of Nessie is nearly soaked to the ankles as the waters rip through the car park.

Nobody was injured in the drama.

A Facebook post from the hotel read: "Well today has been a bit of a crazy one!

"Throughout the night last night the burn behind the hotel burst it’s banks and came through our carpark , flooding the entire downstairs level of the hotel and gift shop

"With our Monster Christmas Fair in aid of MFR Cash for Kids  being such a deserving cause around the corner THIS WEEKEND... we have decided that we will STILL GO AHEAD as planned, albeit with less carpets in our foyer and gift shop!

"It would be such a shame to cancel given the countless hours of hard work our local crafters and vendors put in to make these events a success, so we’ll be pulling out all the stops to make sure we are ready for all you lovely people!"

Scotland has been battered by heavy rains in recent days.

Yesterday we reported how environmental bosses had warned of flooding in large parts of the north and north east of the country.

An additional four flood alerts have also been handed out to Moray, Aberdeenshire, Caithness and Easter Ross.

The environmental body says that river levels will remain high for much of Tuesday due to heavy rain showers overnight.

Locals commented on their sympathies for hotel bosses.

One woman wrote: "So sorry this has happened to the beautiful loch Ness clasnman hotel, hopefully everyone is safe and well done getting it all sorted out so quickly.

Another added: "Oh no! That’s some amount of water! Glad everyone is safe and big love to you all for taking the decision to carry on with the fair.

"We shall overcome! Let’s make it a Monster!"

A flood alert, issued by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), is currently in place for Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside.
