Loch Lomond Waterski Club event sees brave fundraisers take to the chilly waters

Loch Lomond Waterski Club’s annual fancy-dress fundraiser once again saw a host of festive characters take to the loch’s chilly waters on New Year’s Day.

Members took part in the 37th fundraising event organised by the Balloch club, with Cancer Research this year’s chosen charity to benefit from donations - which have still to be totalled.

David Henderson of the club said: “We have lost three former committee members to cancer within the last 18 months. Because of that we decided to run the event in aid of Cancer Research.

“The fundraiser is supported by Cameron House Hotel, Loch Lomond Seaplanes, the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat and Inchmurrin Island Lodges.”

Last year, the group raised almost £3000 through the event for Alzheimer Scotland, with David explaining how the fundraiser has grown over the years.

He said: “We started the New Year’s Day Ski in the early 1980s with just a few brave souls venturing out and the event has grown in popularity ever since then.

“It is very important to us. Apart from anything else it is a good incentive to get out of bed on January 1.”
