Loch Lomond: Teenager found dead after major search operation

A teenage boy has tragically died after getting into difficulty in the water at Loch Lomond.

Police were called to the area at Balloch Country Park when the alarm was raised shortly before 6pm on Friday night.

Emergency services raced to scene and launched a major search operation. The 16-year-old was recovered from the water but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification has yet to take place but his family have been informed.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson advised: "We were called around 5.55pm on Friday, 23 July, 2021 following a report of a concern for person in the water at Balloch Country Park.

"Emergency services attended and male youth who was recovered from the water was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Formal identification has still to take place but the family of a 16-year-old man have been informed.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
