Loch Lomond Rugby Club's taster event hailed as the best ever

There was mud, sweat but thankfully no tears, as Loch Lomond Rugby Club played host to West Dunbartonshire’s biggest introduction to rugby event.

Despite the soaking conditions, players young and old went along to Beechwood to get involved and they were joined by Scotland internationals Lana Skeldon and Megan Kennedy, along with local MSP Jackie Baillie.

As well as a range of rugby activities that allowed the young Lomond players to learn from the Scotland stars, there was also an assault course, yoga taster session and mini bootcamp organised by Chris Bowman Fitness.

Jamie Hogg, representing RBS who supported the event, was full of praise for the Bonhill side.

He said: “This event really grasped the concept of making it about the family and community, supporting all groups as well - youths, female rugby and male rugby. It’s exactly what it’s all about.

“Having been part of Rugby Force for over 20 years, I’ve never seen so many people right at the start, and never seen so many people enjoying themselves. The thought and organisation that has gone into it is exactly what we’re trying to do to support rugby.”

While John Munn, head coach for Lomond’s minis and juniors, added: “This event just showed what a great club we have and we’re very proud of it.

“We’re always on the lookout for more people to get involved and join us, though.

“Rugby is a brilliant sport to be part of.”
