Loch Lomond Rugby Club's summer camp proves a huge hit with players

A summer camp held at L och Lomond Rugby Club’s Beechwood home proved a big hit with players.

Hosted by Onside Performance, the five day camp in July saw youngsters spend a full-on week training and playing in the baking summer sun.

And Loch’s Iain Norrie was delighted to see the club’s young players enjoying themselves after a difficult 15 months where little rugby was played.

He told the Lennox: “It was very successful.

“The kids didn’t have anything but absolute praise for the whole event. Although I think they were quite exhausted by the end, because it was quite intense playing games and training for five days.

“Everybody that I spoke to had a fantastic time. They’ve missed out on so much.

“Being outside means that there weren’t as many restrictions as there has even been when they were at school.

“I went up most days just for a wee look, and they were just having so much fun.

“A lot of our kids are at different schools and are from different areas, but they still get to see their teammates two or three times a week. They might not get to see them outside of rugby.

“A lot of friendships have been rekindled.”

Iain was also keen to praise organisers Onside Rugby for their efforts, adding: “I’ve got nothing but praise for the event they ran for us.

“They surpassed our expectations for the week

“We’re already talking about maybe doing camps in October and Easter for the kids.

“They are so successful that I think you’ll have to be in there right at the start.”

And Iain continued by explaining that the start of the new season cannot come enough - not only for youngsters, but also for the club’s more experienced players who have faced almost 18 months on the sidelines.

“At every age group everyone is really looking forward to getting back playing rugby” he said.

“We just hope that nothing changes again. The kids have started playing again, the adults are back in September and we’re all really excited about it and looking forward to it.

Loch Lomond are always keen to welcome new players, regardless of age, ability or experience. For more information visit the club’s Facebook page at facebook.com/LochLomondRugbyClub
