Loch Lomond Flamingo Land update: Talks continue on Balloch site

The boss of a multi-million pound development plan at Loch Lomond stressed that work is continuing to push on with the proposals.

In September Flamingo Land withdrew the plans for the Balloch site at Woodbank House and Drumkinnon Woods after national park planners recommended they should be refused.

Since then bosses at the company have been locked in talks with Scottish Enterprise, who own the site, on how to move the proposals forward.

Andy Miller told the Lennox Herald: “Talks continue with Flamingo Land still very much committed to the site.

“As a business we are committed and we are invested in the area.

“There are legalities relating to the exclusivity agreement which need to be thrashed out.”

Flamingo Land have an exclusivity agreement with Scottish Enterprise which runs until the end of this year, meaning they are the preferred bidder for the site up until that point.

Opponents to the development, including Labour, SNP and Green politicians, have been trying to get the arrangement scrapped after the proposal attracted over 60,000 objections.

Last October Save Loch Lomond held a meeting at Lomond Parish Church where residents opposed to the Flamingo Land development shared their views on how a community buyout of the area might look.

They made suggestions including glamping pods, a visitor centre and water activities.
